Why Choose Bobalu

Culling Program

100% of Bobalu’s strawberries are hand-picked and packed on our ranches. Every berry that is picked and packed has to be examined by our team to see if it meets the shape, color, firmness, and taste to be a Bobalu strawberry.

Now, farmers just like mothers, don’t have any ugly children, but not all our berries develop correctly. This program gives us the ability to keep out-of-grade berries in an alternative pack. We have found that this allows us to maintain a healthier strawberry plant and increases our overall quality of fresh strawberries. We utilize the culled berries in our in-house processing plant, repurposing them into items that are used in juice concentrates, puree for beverages, and breakfast pastries.

Bobalu is what we do

Processing Plant

At Bobalu we strongly feel it is our job to feed the planet and do it sustainably. Having an in-house processing plant is crucial to this goal. While picking fresh market only about 80% of the berries are good enough to be called Bobalu berries. Thanks to our culling program and processing plant, we can utilize all the strawberries that come from our fields.

At Bobalu food safety is something we live 365 days a year. We are followers of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), and while being audited keeps us accountable, it is just one part of food safety. Using our GAPs (Good Agricultural Practices) and GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), we maintain our food safety standards year-round. We proactively monitor potential food safety hazards to stop them from arising.

We have Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HAACP) program and policy. These are crucial to the safety of our employees and berries.
