Bobalu Fall Crop Update

Santa Maria is setting up nicely for a great peak fall season in the next few weeks.  The plants are very healthy, the fruit is loaded and ready for some consistent volume as you can see from the bloom in these photos.  We are really happy with fruit size, color and firmness so far and thankfully weather is cooperating.

We like what we see with the new Salma variety and currently have plans to increase acreage next year if all goes well.  The fruit looks and tastes great and the plants are very healthy.  The plants and leaves are definitely larger than those of the Portola, but so far we haven’t seen any issues stemming from that difference.

While we do see a peak season on the horizon here in Santa Maria, the volume is still lower overall than one would expect with the word ‘peak’ due to a shorter season and fewer acres than we have during the summer peak.  We look forward to covering our program retailers and ensuring we fulfill that demand first.  We do look forward to also welcoming our fall crop beginning soon in Oxnard.

Our Oxnard fall harvest is expected to begin in mid to late October and help carry us into the holidays.  As we get to that point, we will also be talking about our 2025 program that typically begins around the first of the year!
