HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We hope you had a great holiday season and we look forward to working with you again this year. Our strawberry season is off to a decent start as we work our way through winter here in California, and in our central Mexico growing regions.
Our fruit in Oxnard is looking very nice and the plants are doing a great job of working through some of the strong weather we have already experienced here recently. Volume is slowly picking up and we are very optimistic about our spring crop. The weather forecast shows we should have dry but cool conditions in the coming week.
We are also seeing our volume coming in from Mexico increasing as weather cooperates and provides us with good size, color and flavor in the new year. We look forward to the weeks ahead as our volume continues to stabilize and increase to fulfill the demand.
The Strawberry Commission has released the annual acreage survey for the 2024 California strawberry crop. This summary is below:
The fall planted acres show an increase of just under 5% over 2023 acres. The reported acreage for the state is 31,221 acres (fall planted).
The summer plantings are expected to remain stable but an additional survey will be completed later in the summer to gain accurate numbers. The chart below shows projected fresh weekly volume versus the 3 year average and previous year
